Meshy explained.

Meshy is the most widely used AI 3D generator: a text prompt or a single image becomes a textured, game-ready mesh in about a minute, exportable in six formats. It is also one of the five engines Sculpty runs, so you can use Meshy's output quality without a Meshy subscription — and keep working on the result afterwards.

Meshy logoMeshy
Pros
  • The widest native export coverage of any engine — GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX, USDZ and 3MF from one generation
  • Fast: around a minute per model, with real numeric progress instead of a spinner
  • Text, image and multi-view input all supported
  • Mature auto-rigging and animation tooling
  • A documented public API
Cons
  • One model family — no way to try a different engine when a prompt does not land
  • No photoreal render studio and no 3D world generation
  • No free format converters or general 3D file viewer
  • Its own subscription on top of whatever else your pipeline uses

What is Meshy?

Meshy is an AI 3D generation platform built by Meshy AI. It turns text prompts and reference images into textured meshes, and has become the default first stop for indie game developers, 3D-printing hobbyists and product designers experimenting with generative 3D. Its strongest technical card is format coverage: a single Meshy generation can be downloaded as GLB for the web, FBX for a game engine, USDZ for AR, or STL and 3MF for a slicer.

Where Meshy stops

Meshy generates. It does not composite a photoreal product shot of the model you just made, it does not build an explorable 3D environment around it, and it will not order you a physical print. Those are separate tools with separate subscriptions — which is the gap Sculpty was built to close. There is also the single-model problem: every generator has prompts it handles badly, and with one engine your only recourse is to reword the prompt and pay for another attempt.

Using Meshy inside Sculpty

Sculpty runs Meshy natively — no Meshy account, no API key. Sign in with Google, pick Meshy in the engine selector, and the result lands in a studio that also holds AI texturing, remesh and retopology, a render studio and your gallery. If the Meshy output is not right, switch the selector to Rodin, Tripo or Hunyuan3D and send the same prompt to a different model without leaving the page.

Every engine answers the same prompt box. When one misreads what you asked for, switching costs a dropdown instead of another subscription.

FAQ

Meshy, answered.

Is Meshy free?+

Meshy has a free tier with limited credits, with paid plans above it. You can also reach Meshy through Sculpty's free plan, which includes credits usable on any of the five engines.

Do I need a Meshy account to use it in Sculpty?+

No. Sculpty runs Meshy for you — sign in to Sculpty with Google and generate. There is no API key to configure.

What can Meshy export?+

GLB, OBJ, STL, FBX, USDZ and 3MF, all served natively. That is the widest format coverage of any engine Sculpty runs, which is why it is often the right pick for game-engine and AR pipelines.

What is the best Meshy alternative?+

It depends on what you are missing. For a different generation model, Rodin Gen-2.5 produces higher-fidelity PBR output and Tripo is faster with cleaner topology. For the tooling around generation — texturing, remesh, renders, worlds, printing — Sculpty covers all of it and runs Meshy itself.
