Quad-dominant topology

Where most generators emit dense triangle soups, Tripo's retopology step returns quad-dominant geometry — closer to hand-modelled meshes, and far less clean-up before rigging, subdivision or editing.

Generations come back as textured GLB, and Sculpty converts them to STL, OBJ, PLY or glTF client-side for free — so the same output serves game, web and print pipelines.

What is Tripo?

Tripo is the AI 3D generation product from Tripo AI (VAST), positioned against Meshy on two axes: generation speed and mesh quality. Its retopology step produces low-poly, quad-dominant geometry rather than the dense triangle output most generators emit — and for anyone whose asset has a second life in Blender, Unity or Unreal, that difference is the whole ball game. Sculpty is an independent studio that runs Tripo alongside four other engines, so you get Tripo's output quality with Sculpty's viewer, texturing tools, gallery and free format converters around it.

When to pick Tripo

Choose Tripo when the mesh has to be edited, subdivided or animated afterwards — its quad-dominant topology needs far less clean-up than typical generator output — or when you want a fast image-to-3D turnaround. When you need native FBX, USDZ or 3MF export, Meshy is the better pick; for maximum PBR fidelity with explicit topology targets, Rodin Gen-2.5 is stronger; for a 30-second untextured draft, Hunyuan3D 3.1 Rapid is faster.

Do I need a Tripo account or API key?+

No. Sculpty runs Tripo for you — sign in to Sculpty with Google, pick Tripo in the engine selector, and generate. There is nothing to configure.

Does Tripo really output quad meshes?+

Yes — Tripo's retopology step returns quad-dominant geometry by default, which subdivides predictably and deforms well. It is one of the main reasons to pick it over engines that emit dense triangles.

Can Tripo generate from several photos at once?+

Yes. Sculpty's multi-view studio sends 2–4 angle images to Tripo's H3.1 multiview model, which typically resolves shapes a single photo leaves ambiguous.

What formats can I export?+

GLB natively (textured), and Sculpty converts it client-side to STL, OBJ, PLY or glTF for free. For native FBX, USDZ or 3MF, use Meshy in the same studio.

How does Tripo compare to Meshy and Rodin?+

Tripo is the topology pick: quad-dominant meshes that need less clean-up before editing or rigging. Meshy is the balanced choice with six native export formats; Rodin Gen-2.5 is slower but produces the most convincing PBR materials with explicit topology targets.
