CAD

Zoo Text-to-CAD explained.

Zoo is the one tool here that does not produce a mesh. Its text-to-CAD generates real parametric B-Rep geometry on a GPU-native kernel and exports STEP — the format machinists and engineers actually accept. That makes it not a competitor to mesh generators so much as an answer to a different question.

What it does well, and where it stops.

Zoo Text-to-CAD
Pros
  • Real editable B-Rep geometry with adjustable dimensions, not a frozen mesh
  • STEP export — the format manufacturing actually wants
  • Open source, with an API and a real geometric kernel behind it
  • Small prompt changes regenerate variant models predictably
Cons
  • Accuracy falls off sharply on medium and high-complexity parts
  • Text input only — no images, no reference photos
  • Nothing organic: it makes engineered parts, not characters or creatures
  • No texturing, rendering, worlds or print ordering

Mesh or CAD — decide this first

A mesh is a surface made of triangles: perfect for games, film, web viewers and 3D printing, useless for a drawing a machinist will quote from. CAD is parametric solids with real dimensions: perfect for manufacturing, awkward for anything organic. Zoo is the CAD answer and Sculpty is the mesh answer, and no amount of feature comparison changes which one your project needs. If you are printing a decorative object, a Sculpty mesh converted to STL is the shorter path; if you are machining a bracket to tolerance, Zoo's STEP output is the only one of the two that helps.

FAQ

Zoo Text-to-CAD, answered.

Can Zoo replace a mesh generator like Meshy?+

No, and it is not trying to. Zoo produces parametric CAD for engineered parts; mesh generators produce polygon surfaces for games, visuals and printing. They serve different projects.

Is Zoo good for complex parts?+

Independent testing found it accurate and genuinely editable on simple functional parts, with results dropping off sharply as complexity rises. Treat it as a fast starting point rather than a finished design.
